| Applications and release forms may be obtained at Beach Patrol Headquarters, South Carolina Avenue and the Boardwalk. Note: Completed application, copy of your birth certificate, and waiver of liability form must be submitted at Headquarters before you begin the training school. |
| Tuesday, 01 June 2010 |
| Candidate training school begins with Beach Patrol instructors at Kentucky Avenue and the Beach. It continues through the week of the test, operating every day, conditions permitting. Check with the instructor for time schedule (347-5305). |
| Saturday, 19 June 2010 |
| Test Day for new candidates. 9:00 AM roll call. You must be present at roll call to be permitted to take the test. |
| The test consists of the following: |
| 1. One-half mile ocean swim---run from the beach through the surf, swim out and around a flag buoy and back to the beach starting point. Points are earned by finish place. |
| 2. 50 meter surf dash---Run from the beach with a torpedo into the break go round a stake pole and return to the start/finish line. |
| 3. 1000 meter ocean row---row lifeboat through the surf, around a flag buoy and back to the beach. Each candidate is rated on oarsmanship, control of the boat and course. |
| 4. Candidates will be continually observed and evaluated during the training school and the testing process regarding the candidates level of athletic skills, maturity and personal responsibility. |
| Candidate Requirements for Lifeguard Test |
| 1. You must file an application. |
| 2. All candidates must be 16 years of age and under 35 years of age. |
| 3. You must file a waiver of liability release form signed by you and if you are under 18 years of age by your parent or guardian. |
| 4. You must submit a copy of your birth certificate with a seal. |
| 5. You must be physically fit and be able to swim, row, and run. |
| 6. You must attend the candidate training school. The more hours you attend the better. |
| 7. You must be willing and ready to train and learn from the instructors. |
| Requirements After Pasing the Lifeguard Test |

Note: All residents of Atlantic City who successfully pass the test will fill any open positions before non-residents
of the City. |
| 1. Satisfactorily pass a physical examination and drug screen to be provided by the City of Atlantic City. |
| 2. Satisfactorily pass a background check by the Atlantic City Police Department. |
| 3. Complete a one mile run in 7 and 1/2 minutes or less.Complete a 500 meter ocean swim in 10 minutes or less. |
| 4. Complete a 500 meter ocean swim in 10 minutes or less. |
| 5. Complete a 200 meter pool swim in 4 minutes or less. |
| 6. Satisfactorily complete an 80 hour training program at the Atlantic City Beach Patrol Lifeguard Academy. |
| 7. Working papers are required for those under 18 years of age. |
